Arts Workshops

Free workshops for arts administrators, professional artists, hobbyists and the general public.

Overall subject matter covered will range from marketing to networking, resource sharing, strategic planning and gathering funding and sponsorship.

Cultural mapping activity: Explore the capacity of the community by identifying key resources, organisations and individuals who are based within and service the South West Rocks area.

TAFE Course


Dual Diagnosis Clients


Statement of Attainment in Alcohol and Other Drugs and Mental Health Work

Qualification: Statement of Attainment
Training Package: CHC02 Community Services
TAFE NSW course no: 3393

This course consists of a diploma level unit that applies to workers who provide immediate and ongoing support and intervention to dual diagnosis clients.

A “dual diagnosis” client is a person with both a substance abuse or dependency problem and a coexisting psychiatric disorder. All service providers in health, welfare and related fields are likely at some stage to come into contact with dual diagnosis clients.

This short course will be run as a series of four one-day workshops and will be delivered by Dr Frares Sumara (Addition Specialist) and Allen Anderson (Clinical Psychologist).

These workshops will cover general symptoms of mental health conditions, drugs and their effect and working with people who are Dual Diagnosis.

The workshops will look at the following mental health conditions:
· psychotic disorders, mood disorders, and anxiety disorders co-occurring with substance-related disorders
· personality disorders seen in combination with substance-related disorders.

and the following drugs and their effects on co-morbidity (Dual Diagnosis)
- Alcohol & Effects of Ethyl Alcohol on Organ Function
- Benzodiazepines - Cannabis
- Ecstasy - Heroin
- Ice-Methamphetamine - Hallucinogens

Articulation: This course provides credit into other CHC02 Community Services Training Package courses.

Entrance Requirements: Year 10 and experience working in community services.

Unit: CHCMH8A Provide interventions to meet the needs of consumers with mental health and AOD issues.

Attendance: four, one-day workshops, 9am to 4pm, Tuesday 25 March, 1 & 8 April and Wednesday 9 April. You need to attend all workshops and complete the required assessment to be eligible to receive the Statement of Attainment.

Cost: This course is exempt from the TAFE fee.
